David Robertson is a Professor Emeritus of English at the University of California, Davis. He was twice chair of the department, 2003-06 and 2009-10. He joined with other Davis faculty, including Gary Snyder, to found the Program in Nature and Culture. He also collaborated with other Davis faculty and staff to found the Putah Cache Bioregion Project. He is the author of West of Eden: A History of the Art and Literature of Yosemite and Real Matter, a book mainly about Gary Snyder and Mary Austin. He began photographing in 1973, at first with 35mm cameras, then with a 4×5 view camera, and finally with digital cameras.
